Community Medicaid

Community Medicaid offers coverage of aide services at home to people over 65 who need help with activities of daily living due to their disabilities. Community Medicaid for aide services is also available for people younger than 65 who have a significant disability. In addition to covering the cost of aide services, this type of Medicaid also covers much of the expenses at certain assisted living residences that are an approved part of the New York State Assisted Living Program. At present, the community Medicaid application requires one to three months of bank and financial records, although the look-back period for community Medicaid might change in 2025.

While Medicaid programs in New York State that cover long-term care in the community are more generous than in most other states, the application process is complex. Dreisin Eldercare, Inc. has been providing assistance with the application process for over twenty-two years.

Preparing and submitting the financial part of the Medicaid application is just part of the process of securing services. The process also involves several nursing assessments, the choosing of a variety of agencies for service delivery and also the choice of different options in how to arrange for care. Such options include the choice of accepting an assigned aide agency or of utilizing a program where the family hires a personal assistant who then can be paid by Medicaid through payroll agencies that are contracted with Medicaid for this purpose. Dreisin Eldercare, Inc. provides help and advocacy throughout the entire process.

While Dreisin Eldercare, Inc. does not offer legal services, we often work in coordination with outside Elder Law attorneys who provide legal assistance for those who require legal advice as to asset protection planning and the setting up of trusts and other legal documents in case these are needed.

Nursing Home Medicaid

Nursing Home Medicaid provides coverage for people who are long-term residents of a skilled nursing facility for care that is not covered by Medicare or other insurance. The eligibility rules for Nursing home coverage are more stringent than for Community Medicaid. At present, this application asks for inclusion of the most recent five years of bank and financial records.

Initial calls are welcomed to provide an oversight of the situation and to identify the options that are available as well as a quote of fees. References are also available upon request.
